The SGS 31942 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), this two-flute end mill delivers extended tool life and reliable performance across a range of workpiece materials. The 30-degree spiral helix promotes efficient chip evacuation, and the centercutting geometry allows for direct plunge entry. With a 1.75-inch length of cut and 4-inch overall length, it falls within the extra-long length category, suited for reaching into deeper pockets and features that standard-length tools cannot access.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers, vertical mills, and manual knee mills where precise material removal is required. The straight-cylindrical shank seats cleanly in standard collet chucks and end mill holders. Right-hand cut with right-hand flute direction makes it compatible with conventional spindle setups. The TiN coating and micrograin carbide substrate make it appropriate for milling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, steel, stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys, and similar materials as indicated by workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for CNC machining centers and manual mills using straight-cylindrical shank end mill holders or collet chucks sized for 0.375-inch shank diameter tooling. Compatible workpiece material codes listed by manufacturer: H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the controller is in a safe state before changing tooling. Verify that the end mill holder or collet is clean and free of chips before seating the shank, and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut, particularly given the tight shank diameter tolerance on this tool.
