The SGS 31853 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. Constructed from micrograin carbide and coated with AlTiN for heat and wear resistance, this end mill delivers consistent performance in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It measures 0.3125 inches in diameter with a 1.125-inch length of cut, a 0.3125-inch straight cylindrical shank, and a 3-inch overall length. The 2-flute, 30-degree helix spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation. This is a centercutting tool, capable of plunge entry. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this in CNC milling centers and manual knee mills.
The SGS 31853 is suited for long-reach applications requiring extended flute depth relative to diameter. Its AlTiN coating makes it appropriate for cutting hardened steels, stainless steels, titanium alloys, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The Series 3L long-length designation makes it well matched to deeper pockets and step-down profiling where a standard-length end mill cannot reach. This tool ships individually and is used in production, toolroom, and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines with a 5/16-inch collet or end mill holder accepting a straight cylindrical shank. Rated for workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer, covering carbon steels, alloy steels, stainless steels, cast irons, titanium, and non-ferrous materials.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked before inserting or removing the end mill from its holder. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production cuts to protect both the tool and the workpiece.
