The SGS 31812 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. Built to Series 3L long-length specifications, it features a 0.25 inch cutting diameter, a 1.125 inch length of cut, and a 3 inch overall length. The two-flute spiral design runs a 30-degree right-hand helix, promoting efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. A TiCN coating provides elevated hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated carbide, extending tool life in demanding applications. Micrograin carbide construction supports tight dimensional tolerances throughout the cut. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments are the primary users of this tool.
The SGS 31812 is suited for milling operations where a longer reach is required, such as deep-pocket milling, slotting, and profiling. The long series length makes it appropriate when standard-length end mills cannot reach the full depth of cut. Workpiece material compatibility codes H, K, M, N, P, and S indicate suitability across cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel, high-temperature alloys, and similar materials. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard ER collet chucks and end mill holders designed for 0.25 inch shank tooling. Centercutting capability allows for direct plunge entry into the workpiece when the application calls for it.
Designed for use in standard 0.25 inch straight-cylindrical shank tool holders, ER collet systems, and end mill holders. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer, covering a broad range of metals including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator familiar with proper tooling setup and runout verification. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before mounting or removing any end mill. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully into the collet or tool holder and torque the retention mechanism according to the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chips or damage before each use, and never exceed the manufacturer-recommended cutting parameters for the workpiece material being machined.
