The SGS 31790 is a 4-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling of contoured surfaces, 3D profiles, and complex geometries. With a 1/8 inch cutting diameter and a 3/4 inch length of cut, it is built for slotting, profiling, and finishing passes in tight workspaces. The micrograin carbide substrate delivers hardness and wear resistance, while the AlTiN coating extends tool life in high-temperature cutting conditions. A 30-degree helix angle promotes chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. The variable index geometry helps suppress chatter, making this mill well-suited for fine-finish operations in difficult materials.
The SGS 31790 is intended for use in CNC machining centers and high-speed milling applications. Its primary workpiece material codes cover hardened steels (H), cast iron (K), stainless steel (M), non-ferrous metals (N), steel (P), and high-temperature alloys (S). The long-series 1LB designation provides extended reach for deep-pocket and complex-contour work. Single-end configuration and right-hand cut and flute direction are standard for conventional CNC toolpath programming. This tool is typically installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers in precision job shops and production environments.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before inserting or removing the tool. Secure the 1/8 inch shank in a compatible collet or end mill holder torqued to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production run, as micrograin carbide tools are sensitive to excessive runout at small diameters.
