The SGS 31784 is a 4-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling operations across a wide range of metalworking applications. It features a 0.375-inch mill diameter, a 1.125-inch length of cut, and a 3.0-inch overall length with a matching 0.375-inch shank diameter. The 30-degree helix angle and micrograin carbide construction provide rigidity and edge retention during profiling, contouring, and slotting. A TiCN coating reduces friction and extends tool life in demanding cutting conditions. This is a single-end, right-hand cut and right-hand flute tool in the SGS Series 1LB long series configuration.
This end mill is suited for milling ferrous and non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, stainless steels, cast irons, and non-metallic materials. Primary workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering tool steels, cast iron, stainless, non-ferrous, steel, and superalloys. The long series reach makes it appropriate for deep-pocket and cavity work where standard-length tools cannot reach. It is typically used in CNC machining centers, vertical mills, and multi-axis equipment by machinists and tool and die professionals.
Compatible with primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering tool steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, general steels, and superalloys. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct sourcing option within the SGS Series 1LB long series ball end mill family.
Installation is performed by machinists using a compatible 3/8-inch tool holder, collet chuck, or shrink-fit holder rated for carbide tooling. Verify runout and shank seating before operation to protect the cutting edge. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the workpiece material and machine rigidity. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool; external coolant or air blast is recommended for chip management in deep-pocket applications.
