The SGS 31748 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. It features a 3/16 inch cutting diameter, a 3/4 inch length of cut, and a 2-1/2 inch overall length with a matching 3/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The four-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle and AlTiN finish makes this tool well suited for high-speed cutting in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Variable index spacing helps reduce chatter and vibration during cuts. This end mill is centercutting, allowing plunge entry directly into the workpiece. It is intended for use by machinists and CNC operators working in job shop, production, and tool room environments.
The SGS 31748 is built for milling hard and exotic alloys including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, aluminum, titanium, and high-temperature alloys, as reflected by its primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The long-series length type provides additional reach for deeper pockets and stepped features where standard-length end mills cannot access. It is a single-end tool with right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute orientation, compatible with conventional CNC machining centers and manual knee mills.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills with ER or straight-collet toolholding systems accepting a 3/16 inch shank diameter. Suitable for cutting hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, aluminum, non-ferrous metals, titanium, and high-temperature alloys per material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle lock is engaged before mounting or removing this end mill. Seat the shank fully into the collet or toolholder to the recommended minimum engagement depth for the holder type in use. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate tool wear and degrade surface finish.
