The SGS 31739 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precise milling operations in a wide range of metalworking and machining applications. It features a 0.25 inch mill diameter, a 1.125 inch length of cut, and a 3.0 inch overall length, making it a long-series tool suited for deeper-reach cutting scenarios. The TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) finish improves surface hardness and wear resistance, extending tool life in demanding cuts. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle and a variable index configuration promote chip evacuation and reduce chatter. This end mill is centercutting, allowing plunge entry. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC and manual mills.
The SGS 31739 is intended for milling operations across a broad material range, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, steel alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, and composite materials, as reflected by its workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is well suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in production and job-shop environments. The long length-of-cut range of 1.0 inch to 1.25 inches supports applications where standard-length tools cannot reach. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard collets and end-mill holders.
Designed as a long-series OEM-style replacement end mill for use in standard straight-bore collet chucks and end-mill holders accepting a 0.25 inch straight cylindrical shank. Part of the SGS Series 1L long end mill family.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or end-mill holder to the recommended engagement depth and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with an indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates carbide chipping at the cutting edge.
