The SGS 31730 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision metal removal in CNC machining and manual milling applications. Built from micrograin carbide stock and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, this tool delivers extended wear resistance in demanding cutting conditions. It measures 0.3125 inches in diameter with a 1.125-inch length of cut and a 3-inch overall length. The four-flute, 30-degree right-hand spiral configuration supports efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. This is a centercutting, single-end tool suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations across a broad range of workpiece materials.
The SGS 31730 falls within the Series 1L long-length classification, making it appropriate for applications requiring added reach in pockets, slots, or stepped features. The variable index design reduces harmonic vibration and chatter during aggressive cuts. Workpiece material compatibility codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature superalloys. It is suited for job shops, production machining centers, and aerospace or industrial component manufacturing environments.
Compatible with workpiece material categories H, K, M, N, P, and S as defined by the supplier specification, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless and heat-resistant alloys, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tool for standard 5/16-inch straight-shank collet holders and tool holders.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out state per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Verify collet and holder bore tolerances are compatible with the 0.3125-inch shank before clamping. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the selected workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use.
