The SGS 31654 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking and machining applications. With a 0.1875-inch cutting diameter and four flutes in a 30-degree spiral helix, it delivers efficient chip evacuation and a clean square shoulder profile. The titanium nitride (TiN) coating increases surface hardness and extends tool life across a range of workpiece materials. Manufactured from micrograin carbide, this stub-length end mill offers high rigidity with minimal deflection. A variable index design reduces harmonic vibration during cutting. It is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills operated by machinists and tooling professionals.
This end mill is suited for slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling operations on a broad range of materials including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, non-metallic materials, steel, and heat-resistant alloys. The stub-length configuration provides added stiffness, making it a strong choice for applications where tool overhang must be minimized. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard collets and end mill holders. It is a Series 16 tool with a right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction, operating as a single-end centercutting tool capable of plunge entry.
Designed for use with standard 3/16-inch collets and end mill holders. Compatible workpiece material codes include H (hardened steel), K (cast iron), M (stainless steel), N (non-ferrous), P (steel), and S (heat-resistant superalloys) per ISO material classification.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into a properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use. Do not exceed the recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and coating type.
