The SGS 31458 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. Featuring a 0.1563-inch (5/32 inch) mill diameter and a 4-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle, this tool delivers efficient chip evacuation and a clean finish in demanding applications. Manufactured from micrograin carbide and coated with TiN (Titanium Nitride), it offers improved surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated tooling. The double-end design provides two usable cutting ends, extending tool life and reducing per-cut cost for production environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary users of this tool.
The SGS 31458 is suited for milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, heat-resistant alloys, cast iron, and similar materials as indicated by workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its stub-length profile and 0.3125-inch (5/16 inch) length of cut make it well-suited for rigid setups where minimizing deflection is critical. Typical applications include profiling, contouring, and finishing passes on machining centers and CNC mills. The 3/16-inch shank diameter fits standard collets and tool holders commonly found in precision machining shops.
Compatible with standard 3/16-inch collets and tool holders used on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S are supported as specified by the manufacturer. Part of the SGS Series 14B end mill family.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Secure the shank fully within the collet or tool holder to the recommended grip length before tightening to avoid runout. Verify spindle and tool holder are clean and free of debris prior to insertion. Always confirm machine is powered down and spindle is fully stopped before changing or inspecting tooling.
