The SGS 31451 is a double-end, square-profile end mill ground from micrograin solid carbide and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating. It carries a 7/64 inch (0.1094 inch decimal) mill diameter, a 3/16 inch length of cut, and a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The 30-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry and four-flute configuration support efficient chip evacuation and surface finish in a compact stub-length form factor. The double-end design effectively doubles usable tool life before the cutter is retired. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and CNC operators working in production or job-shop environments are the primary users of this cutter.
The SGS 31451 is suited for milling operations in materials spanning cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, heat-resistant superalloys, and certain non-metallic materials, corresponding to workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its stub length and small diameter make it well-matched to slotting, profiling, and pocket-milling passes where reach is limited and rigidity is critical. It performs in both manual knee mills and CNC machining centers running appropriate feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material.
Designed as a standard stub-length square end mill compatible with any machine tool spindle or collet system accepting a 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the SGS Series 14 end mill line.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in an e-stop or locked-out state per applicable machine guarding and lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the 1/8 inch shank fully and concentrically in a clean, undamaged collet or end mill holder before tightening to the holder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect both cutting ends for chipping or coating wear before each use; a damaged cutting edge on a small-diameter carbide tool can fracture without warning under load. Confirm that feed rate, spindle speed, and depth of cut are appropriate for the workpiece material and machine rigidity before the first pass.
