The SGS 31449 is a double-end, four-flute square end mill ground from micrograin solid carbide and finished with a TiN coating. It carries a 3/32 inch (0.0938 inch) mill diameter and a 3/16 inch (0.1875 inch) length of cut, making it well suited to light-duty profiling, slotting, and finishing passes in confined pockets. The 30-degree right-hand spiral helix promotes efficient chip evacuation while the centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry. Overall length is 1-1/2 inches, and shank diameter is 1/8 inch. The double-end configuration doubles usable tool life before the cutter is retired.
This stub-length end mill is appropriate for CNC machining centers, manual knee mills, and high-speed spindle applications where rigidity and minimal deflection are priorities. Its micrograin carbide substrate and TiN coating support work in a broad range of materials including cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steel, carbon steels, and high-temperature alloys. Typical users include machinist shops, tool-and-die operations, and production facilities running precision small-diameter work.
Designed for use in standard 1/8 inch collets or end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S indicate suitability for hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous materials, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully de-energized and locked out per machine-specific lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully and evenly in the collet or holder before tightening to the tool holder manufacturer's specified torque range. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use; a damaged edge on a small-diameter carbide tool can fracture without warning. Follow the tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the specific workpiece material to avoid premature wear or breakage.
