The SGS 31445 is a double-end, square-profile end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with titanium nitride (TiN), it delivers extended tool life and improved wear resistance compared to uncoated high-speed steel options. The 1/16 inch cutting diameter and stub-length geometry make it well suited for tight-tolerance slots, pockets, and contour cuts where rigidity and minimal deflection are critical. Four right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation. This tool is center-cutting and supports both plunge and peripheral milling operations.
The SGS 31445 is used in CNC machining centers, manual knee mills, and benchtop milling machines across job shops, tool rooms, and production facilities. Its stub length of 1/8 inch length of cut limits overhang and maximizes rigidity, which is advantageous when milling hardened steels, stainless, titanium, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials. The double-end design provides two usable cutting ends, extending effective tool value. Primary workpiece material codes listed for this series include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering a broad spectrum of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Designed for use in CNC and manual milling machines accepting a 1/8 inch straight cylindrical shank. Suitable for workpiece materials corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the SGS Series 14 classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Secure the shank in a collet or end mill holder rated for the 1/8 inch shank diameter, ensuring adequate grip length to prevent pullout under cutting loads. Verify spindle runout is within acceptable tolerance before engaging the workpiece, as runout is especially consequential at small diameters. Always confirm the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing or inspecting the tool.
