The SGS 31444 is a double-end ball end mill designed for precision milling of complex contoured surfaces and 3D profiles. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and edge retention required in demanding CNC machining environments. The 0.0469-inch (3/64 inch) cutting diameter is paired with a 0.0938-inch (3/32 inch) length of cut, making it a stub-length tool suited for applications where overhang must be minimized. A 30-degree right-hand helix promotes smooth chip evacuation, and the titanium nitride (TiN) coating adds surface hardness and lubricity to extend tool life. Installed by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals, this end mill is a direct fit for high-precision small-feature work.
The SGS 31444 is applicable across a broad range of workpiece materials. Its primary material codes cover hardened steels (H), cast irons (K), stainless and heat-resistant alloys (M), non-ferrous metals (N), carbon and alloy steels (P), and superalloys (S). The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, making it an efficient choice for production environments where tool change frequency matters. The 1/8-inch shank diameter is compatible with standard collet chucks and end mill holders commonly found in vertical machining centers and CNC routers handling small-part and mold-making work.
Designed for use in standard 1/8-inch collet chucks and end mill holders on CNC vertical machining centers, CNC routers, and similar small-part machining platforms. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S per the Series 14B classification.
This tool should be installed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the spindle drive before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully within the collet or holder to the recommended grip depth to prevent pullout under cutting loads. Avoid side-loading or interrupted cuts beyond the rated length of cut to prevent micro-chipping on the carbide edge at this diameter.
