The SGS 31418 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking applications. It features a 0.1563-inch (5/32-inch) mill diameter with a 0.3125-inch (5/16-inch) length of cut, a 4-flute spiral geometry, and a 30-degree helix angle. The micrograin carbide construction provides the rigidity and edge retention needed for tight-tolerance work in harder materials. The double-end configuration delivers two usable cutting ends from a single tool, extending tool life and reducing changeover cost. This tool is intended for use in machining centers, CNC mills, and manual milling machines by machinists and toolroom professionals.
The SGS 31418 is suited for finishing and light profiling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Its stub-length profile provides added rigidity in close-tolerance setups where deflection must be minimized. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction follow standard milling conventions. The uncoated micrograin carbide construction makes it appropriate for a range of workpiece materials including cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, stainless steel, heat-resistant alloys, and plastics corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide ball end mill fitting standard 3/16-inch collet or end mill holders used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated by the supplier.
Installation of end mills should be performed by qualified machinists following established safe tooling practices. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully within the collet or tool holder to the recommended engagement depth to prevent pull-out during cutting. Inspect both cutting ends for chipping or wear before use and rotate to the second end only when the first shows measurable wear.
