The SGS 31255 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision metal removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 3/16 inch cutting diameter, a 3/8 inch length of cut, and four flutes with a 30-degree right-hand helix. The variable index flute geometry reduces harmonic vibration during cuts, improving surface finish and tool life. An AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and hardness at elevated cutting temperatures, making this end mill well suited for high-speed and dry machining conditions. Micrograin carbide construction delivers edge retention across a range of workpiece materials. This is a single-end, stub-length tool with a straight cylindrical shank.
The SGS 31255 is appropriate for milling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, heat-resistant alloys, and cast materials. The primary workpiece material codes listed for this tool cover cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steels, standard steels, and high-temperature alloys. Its stub-length profile provides rigidity in setups where minimal overhang is required, reducing deflection during slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling. This tool is used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills by machinists working in job shops, tool rooms, and production environments.
Designed for use in standard straight-shank tool holders accepting a 3/16 inch shank diameter. Suitable for milling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature alloys as indicated by material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Installation is performed by machinists using an appropriate collet chuck or end mill holder rated for the 3/16 inch shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked before tool changes. Verify shank seating depth and runout with an indicator before beginning a cut. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder recommendations for speeds, feeds, and coolant strategy based on the workpiece material being machined.
