The SGS 31251 is a 4-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-precision milling in demanding machining environments. Built to Series 16 stub-length geometry, this end mill features a 1/16 inch cutting diameter, a 1/8 inch length of cut, and a 1-1/2 inch overall length. The AlTiN coating provides heat and oxidation resistance at elevated cutting speeds. Micrograin carbide construction delivers rigidity and edge retention in difficult-to-machine materials. The centercutting design supports plunge entry, and the 30-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation and surface finish quality. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this geometry for tight-tolerance slotting, profiling, and contouring operations.
This end mill is suited for milling a broad range of workpiece materials including high-temperature alloys, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, non-metals, steel, and stainless steel, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The stub length and 1/8 inch straight cylindrical shank make it well-matched for CNC machining centers and manual mills where minimal overhang and maximum stiffness are required. Variable index flute spacing helps reduce harmonic vibration during cuts, making it a practical choice for fine-feature work on hard materials.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide square end mill replacement compatible with standard 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank tool holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard tooling change procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Use the appropriate collet or end mill holder torqued to the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut to protect both the tool and the workpiece.
