The SGS 31234 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. Built to Series 14B specifications, this double-end tool features a 0.3125-inch diameter with a 0.5-inch length of cut and a 4-flute spiral geometry that promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the hardness and wear resistance required for demanding cutting applications. An AlTiN coating improves thermal stability and extends tool life in high-temperature cutting environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this end mill in vertical machining centers and milling machines where tight tolerances and consistent performance are required.
The SGS 31234 is suited for milling operations on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, steel, and hardened materials, corresponding to primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its stub-length designation and 2.5-inch overall length make it appropriate for applications requiring compact reach and rigidity. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, offering extended service before replacement. This tool is commonly used in production and job-shop environments where dimensional accuracy and repeatable results are critical.
Designed for use on workpiece materials classified under codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, high-temperature alloys, steel, and similar materials. Suitable for standard ER or end mill collet holders accepting a 5/16-inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and undamaged before securing the end mill. Use a properly sized collet or end mill holder to achieve the shank diameter tolerance range of -0.0001 to -0.0004 inches for secure clamping. Verify runout at setup and follow the machine manufacturer and tooling guidelines for feed rate and spindle speed based on workpiece material.
