The SGS 31230 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling in demanding industrial and metalworking applications. With a 0.2188 inch (7/32 inch) cutting diameter and a 0.5 inch length of cut, this tool delivers controlled material removal in tight geometries. The four-flute, right-hand spiral design paired with an AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life when cutting hard and abrasive materials. The micrograin carbide substrate supports rigidity at the cutting edge. This is a double-end tool with a 2.5 inch overall length, making it practical for high-production environments where tool life and changeover efficiency matter. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production facilities are the primary users.
The SGS 31230 is suited for milling operations involving a broad range of workpiece materials, as indicated by primary material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S — covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, general steels, and high-temperature alloys. Its stub length classification keeps deflection low in short-reach applications. The double-end configuration extends usable tool life before full replacement is required. Typical applications include slot milling, profiling, and contour work on CNC machining centers in both residential shop and industrial production settings.
Designed for use with standard 1/4 inch collets and tool holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Compatible with workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator following the machine tool manufacturer's tooling guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the end mill from the tool holder. Verify collet size matches the 0.25 inch shank diameter before tightening. Do not exceed the manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for the specific workpiece material being cut.
