The SGS 31228 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding metalworking applications. It features a 0.1875 inch (3/16 inch) mill diameter with a 0.375 inch length of cut and a 2 inch overall length. The four-flute, double-end configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. An AlTiN coating improves heat resistance and tool life at elevated cutting speeds. Built from micrograin carbide, this stub-length end mill delivers the rigidity and edge retention required for precision work in a wide range of materials. It is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC mills and manual milling machines.
The SGS 31228 is suited for milling ferrous and non-ferrous metals, heat-resistant superalloys, cast iron, and stainless steels, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The double-end design allows both ends to be used, extending the tool service life. The stub length construction minimizes deflection in tight-clearance or shallow-pocket operations. This end mill is a practical choice for contouring, profiling, and slotting tasks where a ball nose profile is required.
Designed for use in standard 3/16 inch collets or end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Compatible with workpiece materials coded H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists. Secure the shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and verify runout before cutting. Confirm that the tool holder is rated for the intended spindle speed and feed parameters. Inspect both cutting ends for chipping or wear before each use, and do not exceed the cutting parameters recommended for the workpiece material and coating type.
