The SGS 31224 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. With a 0.125-inch mill diameter and a 0.25-inch length of cut, this tool delivers controlled material removal in tight geometries. The 4-flute, double-end configuration extends tool life by offering two usable cutting ends. An AlTiN coating provides heat resistance and wear protection, making this end mill well-suited for high-temperature cutting conditions. The 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. Micrograin carbide construction supports tight tolerances and consistent performance across a range of workpiece materials.
This ball end mill is used in CNC machining centers and manual mills for contouring, profiling, slotting, and finishing passes on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The stub-length design increases rigidity and minimizes deflection during aggressive cuts. Primary workpiece material compatibility codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, carbon steel, and superalloys. It is well-suited for tool and die work, mold making, and precision component machining where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical.
Designed for use with standard 1/8-inch collet or toolholder systems on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Compatible with workpiece material categories H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated in the supplier specifications.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Ensure the shank is seated fully and evenly in the collet or toolholder before tightening to the appropriate clamping specification for your toolholding system. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation to confirm concentricity before engaging the workpiece. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the workpiece material and machine rigidity class.
