The SGS 31175 is a double-end, four-flute square end mill ground from micrograin solid carbide and finished with an AlTiN coating for high-temperature cutting performance. It measures 0.1094 inches (7/64 inches) in cutting diameter with a 3/16-inch length of cut, a 1/8-inch straight cylindrical shank, and a 1.5-inch overall length. The stub-length configuration keeps deflection low in tight setups. The 30-degree right-hand helix promotes smooth chip evacuation, and the centercutting geometry allows plunge entry. This end mill is installed and run by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC mills and manual knee mills.
The SGS 31175 suits small-feature milling operations where a stub-length tool is needed for rigidity. The AlTiN coating extends tool life when cutting harder or abrasive workpiece materials, including hardened steels, stainless steels, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temp alloys. The double-end design provides a second cutting end, reducing per-edge cost in high-volume or production environments. Typical applications include slot milling, profiling, and pocket work on small, precise features in aerospace, medical, and general machining contexts.
Designed for use with standard 1/8-inch straight collets or end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S are supported per the manufacturer designation, covering hardened materials, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, carbon steel, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist. Seat the 1/8-inch shank fully into a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the collet bore and shank for chips or contamination before clamping. Confirm spindle speed and feed rate are appropriate for the workpiece material and cut depth before engaging the tool.
