The SGS 31153 is a single-end ball end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride), it delivers strong heat resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting speeds. The 3-flute, right-hand spiral configuration provides efficient chip evacuation and a smooth finish. Key dimensional specs include a 0.375-inch mill diameter, a 1-inch length of cut, a 0.375-inch shank diameter, and a 2.5-inch overall length. This tool is suited for machinists and tool-and-die professionals working with difficult-to-machine alloys and hardened steels.
The SGS 31153 is built for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills in both job shop and production environments. Its 30-degree helix angle is optimized for materials categorized under workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S - covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, steel alloys, and heat-resistant superalloys. The regular-length geometry and solid carbide construction make it a practical choice for contour milling, profiling, and slot milling operations where a ball-nose profile is required.
Designed for use with materials under workpiece codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, general steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Part of the SGS Series 5B end mill family.
Installation is performed by machinists in CNC or manual milling setups. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and at rest before installing or removing the tool. The 0.375-inch shank diameter must be matched to a compatible collet or end mill holder with appropriate holding force for the intended cutting loads. Verify runout after tool installation before beginning a cut to protect both the tool and the workpiece.
