The SGS 31143 is a 3-flute solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. With a 0.2188-inch cutting diameter and a 0.625-inch length of cut, this single-end tool delivers consistent, accurate profiling and contouring in ferrous and non-ferrous applications. The AlTiN coating provides enhanced heat resistance and surface hardness, extending tool life in demanding cutting conditions. Constructed from micrograin solid carbide, the 31143 holds tight tolerances and resists deflection at this diameter. This tool is used by machinists, toolmakers, and CNC operators in job shops and production environments.
The SGS 31143 is suited for milling operations on materials including hardened steels, stainless steels, titanium alloys, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The 30-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation and supports smooth cutting action. With a 0.25-inch shank diameter and 2.5-inch overall length, it fits standard collet and end mill holder setups. The regular-length profile makes it a practical choice for general-purpose profiling, slotting, and 3D contouring where a ball nose profile is required.
Designed for use with standard 0.25-inch collets and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, steel, and high-temperature alloys per the supplier material classification. Part of the SGS Series 5B end mill family.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool path program is verified before mounting. Secure the shank in a clean, properly sized 0.25-inch collet or end mill holder, torquing the retention nut per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use and confirm runout is within acceptable limits before beginning a cut.
