The SGS 30847 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. It measures 7/8 inches in cutting diameter with a 1-1/2 inch length of cut and a 4 inch overall length. The three-flute, spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. The AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and surface hardness, making this end mill well suited for high-speed dry or semi-dry cutting in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Micrograin carbide construction contributes to edge retention and consistent dimensional accuracy. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers rely on tools like the 30847 for close-tolerance profiling, slotting, and peripheral milling operations.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where rigid toolholding is available. It is centercutting, meaning it can plunge directly into the workpiece. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard collet chucks and end mill holders with a 7/8 inch bore. Primary workpiece material codes listed by the manufacturer are H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. The right-hand cut, right-hand flute orientation is the standard configuration for conventional and climb milling passes.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines equipped with 7/8 inch collet chucks or end mill holders. Compatible with workpiece materials coded H, K, M, N, P, and S per manufacturer classification, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or lockout state before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended gauge line and torque the retention hardware per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cutting program.
