The SGS 30828 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations across a broad range of workpiece materials. Built to Series 5 standards with a micrograin carbide substrate and AlTiN finish, this tool delivers hardness and thermal resistance suited to demanding cutting environments. It features a 9/32 inch (0.2813 inch) mill diameter, a 3/4 inch length of cut, and a 5/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The three-flute spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle balances chip evacuation with surface finish quality. At 2-1/2 inches overall length, it fits standard milling chucks and collet holders used in vertical and horizontal machining centers.
This end mill is suited to shops and field machinists working with a wide range of materials. The primary workpiece material codes cover hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, general steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Centercutting capability allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration matches standard spindle rotation on CNC mills and manual knee mills alike. Regular length classification makes it a go-to choice for general-purpose slot milling, profiling, and pocket work.
Designed as a regular-length square end mill compatible with standard 5/16 inch collets and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Rated for use on hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous materials, general steels, and high-temperature superalloys per primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following established shop safety procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the end mill from the holder. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the collet nut is torqued to the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before engaging the cut to avoid premature edge wear or tool breakage.
