The SGS 30817 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking and machining applications. It features a 7/64 inch (0.1094 inch) cutting diameter and a 3/8 inch length of cut, with three right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle. The micrograin carbide substrate delivers hardness and wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. An AlTiN coating further extends tool life when machining hard and abrasive workpiece materials. The 1/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank and 1-1/2 inch overall length make this a compact, single-end tool suited for tight-tolerance slot milling, profiling, and contouring cuts.
This end mill is center-cutting and capable of plunge entry, making it versatile for a range of milling operations on CNC machining centers and manual mills. The AlTiN coating and micrograin carbide construction make it well-suited for workpiece material groups including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel, and high-temperature alloys. It is appropriate for job shops, tool rooms, and production machining environments where small-diameter, high-precision cutting tools are required.
Designed for use with standard 1/8 inch collets or end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Suitable for workpiece material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S per the SGS Series 5 classification, covering cast iron, non-ferrous materials, stainless steel, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature alloys.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine locked out. Secure the shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and verify runout before initiating a cut. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for the specific workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edge for wear or chipping before each use, as carbide tools can fail abruptly if run beyond serviceable condition.
