The SGS 30797 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of materials. It features a 27/64 inch (0.4219 inch) cutting diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 7/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The three-flute geometry with a 30-degree spiral helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and balanced cutting forces. A TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating increases surface hardness and reduces friction, extending tool life in demanding applications. Micrograin carbide substrate provides the wear resistance and edge retention needed for consistent performance across production and job-shop environments. This tool is installed and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals.
The SGS 30797 is suited for milling operations in materials spanning multiple workpiece categories, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, long-chipping steels, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is applicable in both CNC machining centers and manual mills. The centercutting capability allows plunge entry, making it useful for slotting, profiling, and pocket milling. The regular-length classification and 2-3/4 inch overall length make it well-suited for standard-reach applications where rigidity and minimal deflection are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and production end mill for CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 7/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible with workpiece material categories H, K, M, N, P, and S as designated in the supplier specifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists. Before changing or setting tooling, ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Seat the shank fully into a collet or end mill holder and torque the retention hardware per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear and reduce surface finish quality.
