The SGS 30779 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in CNC machining and manual milling operations. It features a 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch) cutting diameter, a 1/2 inch length of cut, and a 3/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The tool carries a TiCN (Titanium Carbonitride) finish that increases surface hardness and wear resistance, extending tool life across demanding cuts. With three spiral flutes and a 30-degree helix angle, it promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting performance. Machinists and tooling technicians install this end mill in standard milling chucks or collet holders on vertical machining centers and manual knee mills.
This end mill is suited for milling ferrous and non-ferrous metals, cast materials, and high-temperature alloys. The SGS Series 5 designation identifies it as a general-purpose micrograin carbide tool with a regular length profile. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry in addition to peripheral and slot milling. Primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S indicate suitability across hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous alloys, carbon and alloy steels, and heat-resistant superalloys. Designed as a direct-fit replacement or new installation for milling applications requiring a 3/16 inch shank, 9/64 inch cutting diameter end mill in standard collet or end mill holder systems. Compatible with workpiece materials coded H, K, M, N, P, and S per the supplier specification.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in an e-stop or tool-change state. Seat the 3/16 inch shank fully into a clean, burr-free collet or end mill holder and torque the retention nut to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chips or damage before each use. Tool runout should be verified with a dial indicator after installation to maintain dimensional accuracy and avoid premature edge failure.
