The SGS 30539 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding machining applications. Built from micrograin carbide, it delivers the hardness and edge retention needed for consistent performance in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 30539 features a 5/16 inch cutting diameter, a 13/16 inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. With three flutes in a right-hand spiral configuration, it balances chip load and surface finish. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this tool in vertical and horizontal milling centers for profile milling, slotting, and plunging operations.
This end mill is suited for use in milling applications across a broad range of workpiece materials, including cast iron, hardened steels, stainless steels, titanium alloys, aluminum, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to ISO material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its centercutting geometry enables direct plunge entry without pre-drilling, making it practical for pocketing and ramping operations. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard ER and side-lock toolholders. This is a regular-length tool in the SGS Series 5 product line.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard selection for 5/16 inch straight-shank toolholder systems used in CNC and manual milling machines across a wide range of workpiece material groups (H, K, M, N, P, S per ISO classification).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before installing or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully into the collet or toolholder to the recommended gauge depth and verify runout with a dial indicator before cutting. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for appropriate feed rates and spindle speeds based on workpiece material.
