The SGS 30517 is a single-end, square-profile carbide end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking and machining applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it delivers consistent cutting performance and edge retention across a range of workpiece materials. The tool features a 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch) mill diameter, a 1/2 inch length of cut, and a 30-degree right-hand helix. With three flutes and a spiral flute geometry, it produces efficient chip evacuation while maintaining surface finish quality. This end mill is center-cutting, allowing direct plunge entry into the workpiece when required.
The SGS 30517 is suited for milling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals including steel, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum, and high-temperature alloys, consistent with its primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its compact diameter makes it well matched for fine-detail slot milling, profiling, and finishing passes in precision machining environments. The bright, uncoated finish is appropriate for use with cutting fluids where coating compatibility is a concern. This tool is typically installed and operated by machinists and CNC operators working on vertical mills and machining centers.
Designed as a standard straight-shank end mill for use in compatible collet chucks, end mill holders, and tooling systems accepting a 3/16 inch shank diameter. Suited for CNC machining centers and manual vertical mills equipped with appropriate toolholding.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and runout specifications. Ensure the shank is fully seated in the collet or holder to the recommended minimum engagement depth before tightening. Confirm spindle is fully stopped and machine is powered down before changing tooling. Do not exceed the tool's rated length-of-cut range of 0.5000 to 0.6000 inches to avoid deflection or breakage.
