The SGS 30498 is a single-end ball end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and edge retention needed for demanding cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The tool features an AlTiN coating for improved heat resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting speeds. With a 0.4375-inch (7/16 inch) mill diameter, a 1-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle, it is engineered for right-hand cutting with a spiral flute geometry. Machinists and toolroom operators working with milling machines and CNC machining centers are the primary installers of this tool.
This ball end mill is suited for profiling, contouring, and slotting operations in ferrous steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The material grade codes cover a broad workpiece material range including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, aluminum alloys, carbon steels, and superalloys. It is a regular-length tool appropriate for standard reach applications where extended reach is not required. The 7/16-inch shank diameter matches standard collet and end mill holder sizes common on knee mills and CNC machining centers.

This tool is installed by machinists and CNC operators using standard collet chucks or end mill holders sized for a 7/16-inch shank. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked before mounting or removing the tool. Verify collet bore and holder runout are within acceptable limits to protect the shank diameter tolerance of +0.00001 to -0.00002 inches. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety protocols when setting tool offsets and establishing feeds and speeds.
