The SGS 30457 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision metal removal in milling operations. It features a 27/64 inch (0.4219 inch) cutting diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 7/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The two-flute, right-hand spiral geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. An AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life when machining abrasive or high-temperature alloys. This is a centercutting tool, allowing plunge entry as well as conventional side milling. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for milling a broad range of workpiece materials including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous materials, structural steels, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The regular-length body and 2-3/4 inch overall length make it a practical choice for standard-reach pocket milling, slotting, and profiling operations on vertical and horizontal machining centers. Micrograin carbide construction supports demanding cutting parameters while maintaining edge integrity.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tooling option for standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling machine spindles accepting a 7/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in an e-stop or lockout state before loading or changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the recommended minimum engagement depth and torque the retention nut per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Verify runout at the cutting end with a dial indicator before beginning a new operation to protect both the tool and the workpiece.
