The SGS 30450 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metal and composite workpiece materials. Built on the SGS Series 3 platform, it features a 5/16 inch cutting diameter, a 13/16 inch length of cut, and a 2-1/2 inch overall length. The AlTiN finish provides thermal resistance and extended tool life under high-speed cutting conditions. The 2-flute geometry promotes chip evacuation in materials where flute loading is a concern. Machined from micrograin carbide, the 30450 delivers consistent edge geometry and dimensional accuracy suitable for finish and semi-finish milling operations.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on ferrous metals, cast iron, stainless steel, aluminum, non-ferrous alloys, and high-temperature alloys, corresponding to primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The straight cylindrical shank and regular length profile make it compatible with standard collet chucks and end mill holders used in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Centercutting capability allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole, adding flexibility in slotting and pocketing operations.
The SGS 30450 is rated for use in workpiece materials classified under codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering tool steels, cast irons, stainless steels, aluminum alloys, non-ferrous materials, and high-temperature alloys. No additional specific compatible machine models or replacement part numbers were provided in the product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out before tool changes. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully into the collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism to the toolholder specification before starting the spindle. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use, and verify runout with a dial indicator when tolerances are critical. Discard the tool if edge chipping or measurable wear is detected rather than attempting regrinding without proper equipment.
