The SGS 30448 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking and machining applications. It features a 9/32 inch (0.2813 inch) cutting diameter, a 3/4 inch length of cut, and a 5/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. The tool carries an AlTiN finish, which improves heat resistance and tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. With a 30-degree helix angle and spiral flute geometry, it promotes efficient chip evacuation and consistent cutting performance. This end mill is centercutting and suitable for plunge, slot, and profile milling operations. It is installed and used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC and manual milling equipment.
The SGS 30448 is rated for use across multiple workpiece material categories, including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous materials, steels, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute configuration in a regular-length profile. Typical applications include finish milling, slotting, and light contouring in production and job-shop environments. The 2-flute design suits slotting and milling in softer or gummy materials where chip clearance is a priority.
The SGS 30448 Series 3 end mill is compatible with workpiece materials corresponding to ISO material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, general steels, and superalloys. It accepts standard collet or end mill holders sized for a 5/16 inch straight shank.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists using a properly sized collet chuck or end mill holder rated for the 5/16 inch shank diameter. The machine spindle must be stopped and locked out before tool changes. Verify that runout is within acceptable limits before beginning a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on carbide tooling. Follow machine tool manufacturer guidelines for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut appropriate to the workpiece material.
