The SGS 30378 is a single-end, two-flute ball end mill ground from micrograin solid carbide. It carries a 1/8 inch cutting diameter with a 3/8 inch length of cut and a 1-1/2 inch overall length. The 1/8 inch shank diameter matches the cutting diameter for straightforward collet setup. A 30-degree right-hand spiral helix geometry supports both roughing and finishing passes in a single tool. The bright, uncoated finish suits a wide range of workpiece materials. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled lead hole, adding versatility on multi-axis setups.
This end mill is rated for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys, covering ISO material groups P, M, K, N, and S. Its compact 1/8 inch diameter makes it well suited for detail work, slot milling, and contour profiling in mold and die work, aerospace components, and precision medical parts. Machinists working on CNC mills, VMCs, and high-speed spindles in job shops or production environments will find the standard-length geometry easy to program and fixture.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide ball end mill in the SGS Series 3B line, intended for use in standard 1/8 inch ER or R8 collet chucks on CNC and manual milling machines.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the 1/8 inch shank in a matched collet or end mill holder and torque the retention nut to the machine manufacturer specification. Verify runout at the cutting tip before beginning a cut, as runout in small-diameter carbide end mills accelerates chipping. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the workpiece material and machine spindle speed; carbide end mills are brittle and will fracture under excessive radial load rather than deflect like HSS tooling.
