The SGS 30171 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in milling operations across a wide range of workpiece materials. With a 0.750 inch mill diameter, a 1.5 inch length of cut, and a 4.0 inch overall length, this tool is built for regular-length slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling applications. The 4-flute configuration with a 30-degree helix angle and variable index geometry helps reduce chatter and improve surface finish. Micrograin carbide construction provides the hardness and wear resistance needed for consistent performance in demanding cutting environments. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals, this end mill fits standard CNC machining centers and manual knee mills equipped with compatible collet or end mill holders.
The SGS 30171 is suited for use on a broad spectrum of materials, including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel alloys, heat-resistant superalloys, and non-metallic materials, corresponding to ISO material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its centercutting capability allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece, making it practical for both ramping and direct plunge operations. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 0.750 inch diameter seats securely in standard collet chucks and end mill holders without requiring special adapters.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer specifications for tool runout and collet torque. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Verify collet condition and holder cleanliness before seating the shank to avoid runout that can accelerate tool wear or cause premature breakage. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer recommended depth-of-cut or feed rate parameters for the target workpiece material.
