The SGS 30140 is a solid carbide ball end mill engineered for precision milling operations across a range of metalworking applications. With a 0.3125-inch (5/16-inch) mill diameter and a 0.8125-inch length of cut, this single-end tool delivers controlled material removal in finishing and semi-finishing passes. The four-flute, right-hand spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting action. Manufactured from micrograin solid carbide, the 30140 holds tight tolerances and resists wear under demanding cutting conditions. The uncoated finish makes it suitable for use with coolant or lubricants specific to the workpiece material.
The SGS 30140 is suited for milling operations on a broad range of workpiece materials, including ferrous metals, cast iron, stainless steel, nonferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and plastics, as indicated by material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. With a 2.5-inch overall length and a 0.3125-inch shank diameter, this tool fits standard collet chucks and tool holders used in CNC machining centers and manual mills. It is a regular-length tool appropriate for slotting, profiling, and contouring work where a ball nose profile is required.
The SGS 30140 is compatible with workpiece material categories H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast iron, stainless steel, nonferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and plastics. It is part of the SGS Series 1B line of solid carbide ball end mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the collet or tool holder and torque the retention mechanism per the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, and confirm feed, speed, and depth-of-cut parameters are appropriate for the workpiece material and machine capability.
