The SGS 30116 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for precision milling in a wide range of metalworking applications. With a 0.125-inch mill diameter, a 0.5-inch length of cut, and four spiral flutes ground with a 30-degree helix angle, this tool delivers smooth chip evacuation and consistent surface finish at small diameters. The micrograin carbide substrate provides the hardness and edge retention needed for demanding cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It is a single-end tool with a right-hand cutting direction and right-hand flute geometry, intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals running CNC mills or manual knee mills.
This end mill is suited for profiling, contouring, slotting, and 3D surfacing operations where a ball-nose geometry is required. The 0.125-inch shank diameter matches the mill diameter for direct collet clamping without a reduction bushing. The 1.5-inch overall length keeps deflection low at this diameter. It is commonly used in mold and die shops, aerospace component machining, and precision job shops working with harder alloys, cast irons, stainless steels, titanium, and high-temperature alloys. The variable index design helps reduce harmonic chatter during cutting.
Designed for use with standard 1/8-inch collets or collet chucks on CNC machining centers and manual mills. Suitable for workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S covering cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, steel, and high-temperature alloys per the SGS Series 1B classification.
A licensed machinist or trained toolroom professional should install and operate this end mill. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before loading or removing the tool from any collet or tool holder. Verify collet bore size matches the 0.125-inch shank diameter before clamping to the specified torque for your tool holder system. At this diameter, minimum runout and proper coolant or lubrication strategy are critical to tool life; consult the machine tool manufacturer and speeds-and-feeds data for the specific workpiece material before beginning a cut.
