The SGS 30049 is a solid carbide ball end mill designed for high-performance milling in a wide range of metalworking applications. Built on the Series 1B platform with a micrograin carbide substrate, this single-end tool features four flutes with a 30-degree helix angle and a variable index configuration. The AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and hardness at the cutting edge, making this mill well-suited for dry or semi-dry cutting at elevated speeds. The 0.2969-inch diameter and 0.8125-inch length of cut make it appropriate for contouring, profiling, and finishing operations where precision and surface quality matter.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills where tight tolerances and consistent tool geometry are required. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional and climb milling setups. Primary workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S, covering hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, and high-temperature alloys. The 5/16-inch shank diameter fits standard collets and toolholders commonly found in job shop and production environments.
Designed for use with standard 5/16-inch collets and toolholders in CNC and manual milling machines. Suitable for workpiece materials coded H, K, M, N, P, and S per the supplier specification, including hardened steels, stainless steels, cast irons, non-ferrous metals, carbon and alloy steels, and superalloys.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or toolholder and torque to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on a tool of this diameter.
