The SGS 30017 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision material removal in metalworking and machining applications. It features a 0.4219-inch cutting diameter, a 1-inch length of cut, and a 2.75-inch overall length with a 7/16-inch straight cylindrical shank. The 4-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle supports efficient chip evacuation and surface finish quality. An AlTiN coating improves heat resistance and tool life during high-speed cutting. Variable index spacing reduces harmonic vibration, extending both tool life and surface quality in demanding operations. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers are the primary users of this tooling.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on a broad range of materials including hardened steels, cast irons, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, plastics, and high-temperature alloys, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. It is a centercutting design, allowing plunge entry into the workpiece. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling on vertical machining centers and CNC mills. It fits standard 7/16-inch toolholders and collets used in production and job-shop environments.
Compatible with standard 7/16-inch collets and toolholders on CNC vertical machining centers and manual mills. Rated for use on workpiece material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or collet is de-energized before seating or removing the end mill. Use a calibrated torque wrench and the appropriate collet nut wrench to achieve secure clamping without over-tightening the shank. Verify runout at the tool tip with a dial indicator before beginning a production run to avoid premature edge wear.
