The SGS 30008 is a 4-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. The tool measures 9/32 inch (0.2812 inches) in diameter with a 3/4 inch length of cut and a 5/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Overall length is 2-1/2 inches. An AlTiN coating provides heat and wear resistance at elevated cutting speeds. The micrograin carbide substrate supports tight tolerances and consistent edge integrity. Centercutting geometry allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral milling. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and CNC tooling professionals.
The SGS 30008 is suited for milling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, high-temperature alloys, and cast materials corresponding to material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. Its spiral flute design, 30-degree helix angle, and variable index geometry support chip evacuation and reduced chatter across a range of cutting conditions. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and finishing passes in both manual and CNC machining environments. The regular length configuration makes it appropriate for standard reach situations where rigidity is a priority.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or new installation for tool holders accepting a 5/16 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible with materials classified under SGS material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S, which include cast iron, non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, titanium alloys, and steel.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the tool holder released from the spindle before changing end mills. Use an appropriate collet or end mill holder rated for a 5/16 inch shank and torque the retention mechanism per the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation before beginning a cut.
