The SGS 00846 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precise milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With a 0.04-inch cutting diameter and a 2-flute, right-hand spiral configuration at a 30-degree helix angle, this tool delivers clean, accurate cuts in tight-tolerance applications. The micrograin carbide construction provides the hardness and edge retention needed for high-speed cutting in difficult materials. At 1.5 inches overall length with a 0.12-inch length of cut, it is sized for shallow-depth profiling, slotting, and contouring work. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this end mill series.
This end mill is well suited for CNC machining centers, vertical mills, and manual knee mills requiring small-diameter tooling. The 1/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank allows it to seat in standard ER collet chucks and precision end mill holders. The centercutting geometry enables direct plunge entry as well as conventional ramping. Applications include mold detail work, prototype part machining, and precision part production where a small footprint cutter is required. The regular-length designation keeps the tool rigid and minimizes deflection at small diameters.
Designed for use in standard 1/8-inch collet chucks and end mill holders on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Part of the SGS Series 1610 small-diameter end mill line.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard toolholding procedures. Ensure the collet or holder bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Torque the collet nut to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not use hand-tight seating alone for high-speed operation. Verify runout with a dial indicator before initiating cuts, as runout on small-diameter tools accelerates edge wear and breakage risk.
