The SGS 00431 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling in metalworking and machining applications. Built from super micrograin carbide, it delivers the edge retention and rigidity required for tight-tolerance slotting, profiling, and plunge cuts. The 4-flute, single-end configuration with a 30-degree helix angle balances chip evacuation with surface finish quality. At 0.0781 inches in diameter with a 0.125-inch length of cut, this is a stub-length tool suited for short-reach work where rigidity is critical. The centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the primary installers of this tool type.
This end mill fits applications requiring small-diameter precision cutting in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and composites. The stub-length profile minimizes deflection, making it a practical choice for high-speed CNC milling centers and manual knee mills where chatter control matters. The 0.125-inch straight cylindrical shank seats directly into standard collets and end mill holders of matching bore. It ships as a single unit and is uncoated, which suits re-sharpening workflows where coating removal would otherwise be a concern.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for SGS Series 1820 stub-length square end mills with a 0.125-inch straight cylindrical shank; compatible with standard collet chucks and end mill holders of matching bore size.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before each use; a damaged end mill in a high-speed spindle is a safety hazard.
