The SGS 00428 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for precision milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built to Series 1820 standards, it features a 1/16 inch (0.0625 inch) cutting diameter and a 3/32 inch (0.0938 inch) length of cut in a stub-length configuration. With four flutes and a 30-degree right-hand helix, it delivers efficient chip evacuation and surface finish quality in tight-tolerance applications. The bright, uncoated finish makes it well-suited for aluminum, brass, and other non-ferrous materials. Machinists and toolroom technicians rely on this style of micro end mill for detailed contouring, slotting, and profiling in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is used in precision machining environments including job shops, toolrooms, and production floors where small-diameter, high-accuracy cuts are required. The stub length format reduces deflection and improves rigidity, making it particularly effective for shallow slotting and face milling operations in tight spaces or on small workpieces. The micrograin carbide substrate supports higher cutting speeds and longer tool life compared to standard carbide grades. It is a single-end design with a straight cylindrical shank for standard collet or end mill holder clamping.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Secure the straight cylindrical shank in a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the drawbar or retention system per the machine manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before use, as micro end mills are susceptible to breakage if runout exceeds acceptable limits for the shank diameter.
