The SGS 00314 is a square end mill designed for precision milling operations in tight tolerances. Built from micrograin solid carbide, it carries a 0.018-inch cutting diameter and a 0.027-inch length of cut, making it well suited for micro-milling work where dimensional accuracy is critical. The 1/8-inch straight cylindrical shank fits standard collet toolholders. At 1.5 inches overall length and stub classification, this end mill provides rigidity in short-reach applications. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry, and runs a right-hand cut with right-hand spiral flutes at a 30-degree helix angle. Installation and use require a compatible CNC machining center or manual milling machine.
This end mill is applied in precision machining environments where small-diameter, close-tolerance cuts are required. The stub length and micrograin carbide construction reduce deflection during light-to-moderate feed passes in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 2-flute geometry and spiral flute design promote chip evacuation in confined pockets and slots. It is commonly selected for intricate part features, mold work, and prototype components where the 0.018-inch diameter is appropriate. A licensed machinist or skilled CNC operator should be running this tooling given the small diameter and the care required to prevent breakage.

Install into a collet or end mill holder sized for a 1/8-inch shank and torque the drawbar or collet nut per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Power down the spindle and lock the axis before seating or removing the tool. At 0.018-inch diameter, this tool is extremely fragile — excessive runout, improper seating, or aggressive feed rates will result in breakage. Verify spindle runout with a dial indicator before use and program conservative chip loads appropriate for micro-diameter carbide tooling.
