The SGS 00304 is a square end mill designed for precision micro-machining operations where tight tolerances and controlled material removal are critical. Built from micrograin solid carbide, this stub-length tool features a 0.008-inch cutting diameter and a 0.012-inch length of cut, making it suited for fine detail work in hardened materials and close-tolerance features. The 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. With a straight cylindrical shank of 0.125 inches and an overall length of 1.5 inches, it mounts securely in standard collet chucks and end mill holders. Machinists and toolroom operators working on small-part production and mold detail work are the primary users of this tool.
The SGS 00304 is used in CNC machining centers and manual mills for micro-scale slotting, profiling, and contouring in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Its stub-length geometry provides added rigidity, minimizing deflection during high-precision cuts. The centercutting design allows for direct plunge entry. It is well-suited to applications such as small mold cavities, medical device components, electronics fixtures, and fine feature work where a standard-length end mill would introduce unwanted flex or runout error.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option within the SGS Series 1620 stub-length end mill family. Fits any standard 0.125-inch collet chuck or end mill holder accepting straight cylindrical shanks.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the recommended gauge-line depth and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. At micro diameters, runout control is critical — verify total indicator runout at the cutting edge before commencing the operation to avoid premature tool breakage.
