The SECO 97529 is a parallel-style cutoff blade designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from WKE45 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright finish, this blade measures 4 mm wide, 16 mm high, and 140 mm long overall. The cobalt grade delivers improved heat resistance and edge retention compared to standard high-speed steel, making it suitable for interrupted cuts and tougher workpiece materials. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically specify cobalt cutoff blades where extended tool life under moderate cutting speeds is required.
This cutoff blade is applied in production turning environments where consistent parting performance is needed across steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials. The parallel blade style maintains a uniform cross-section along its length, supporting repeatable positioning in standard cutoff blade holders. It is suited for both light-production and job-shop lathe work where a reliable, straight-shank parting blade is required without the complexity of indexable insert tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit cutoff blade for standard parallel cutoff blade holders accepting a 4 mm wide, 16 mm high blade profile.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle before seating or adjusting the blade in the holder. Secure the blade firmly in the cutoff blade holder using the manufacturer-specified clamping screws, ensuring the blade is perpendicular to the workpiece centerline before engaging the cut. Do not exceed the recommended cutting speeds for cobalt HSS as listed in the tooling manufacturer's cutting data tables.
