Product Description

The SECO 74078899 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ANSI and ISO designation SEKN1203AFTN-M14. It features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, four cutting edges, and a neutral rake and hand orientation. The insert is PVD-coated with a TiAlN and TiN multilayer finish, grade F40M, fine-grain carbide substrate. A T-land cutting edge style and 20-degree relief angle help manage entry forces and edge stability during milling operations. Maximum depth of cut is 0.3465 inches. Licensed machinists and CNC mill operators install this insert class into compatible indexable milling cutter bodies.

This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Primary workpiece material codes are P, K, and S. Secondary material codes are K and N. It is held in the cutter body by a wedge clamp mechanism. The M14 chip breaker geometry is designed to control chip formation across a range of feed and depth conditions common in production and job-shop milling environments, both roughing and semi-finishing passes on ferrous and exotic alloy components.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide fine-grain substrate, manufacturer grade F40M
  • PVD-applied TiAlN and TiN dual-layer coating for wear and heat resistance
  • Square insert shape, 90-degree included angle, 4 indexable cutting edges
  • Neutral rake and neutral hand — compatible with standard right-hand cutter bodies
  • T-land cutting edge style with 20-degree relief angle
  • M14 chip breaker geometry for steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium applications
  • Wedge clamp insert holding method for secure seating under interrupted and continuous cuts

Compatibility

Designed for use in cutter series R220.13-12 milling bodies. Insert size code is 1203, ANSI and ISO code SEKN1203AFTN-M14, series SEKN-12. Conforms to ISO standards. Verify cutter body pocket geometry and wedge clamp specification before ordering.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always power down and lock out the spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver specified by the cutter body manufacturer for the wedge clamp screw — do not over-torque or substitute fasteners. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating a fresh insert, as contamination will cause runout and premature edge failure.
