The SECO 74070273 is a solid carbide, uncoated round turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to ANSI and ISO standards, it carries the RNMG insert style with a full-radius round shape (Insert Shape Code R) and a negative rake geometry. The manufacturer grade is 883, a carbide substrate optimized for superalloys and titanium. With an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches and a corner radius of 0.25 inches, this insert provides a generous cutting arc suited to profiling, facing, and turning operations. The MR4 chip breaker geometry and T-Land cutting edge style are engineered to manage tough, work-hardening materials common in aerospace and high-temperature alloy machining.
This insert is intended for high-demand turning applications involving superalloys, titanium, and secondary workpiece materials including steel, cast iron, non-ferrous, and hardened materials. The MR4 series chip breaker performs across facing, profiling, and longitudinal turning operations. It is most commonly installed and used by CNC machinists and toolroom professionals working on turning centers in industrial and aerospace manufacturing environments. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for RNMG-MR4 series toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle round insert with a 0.2028-inch hole diameter using clamp, pin, or lever lock holding methods.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw or lever lock — do not overtighten, as this can fracture carbide inserts.
